About EFT Tapping
What is EFT Tapping?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and incorporates theories from holistic therapies such as acupressure, energy medicine and neuro-linguistic programming. Also known as tapping, emotional acupuncture, acupuncture without the needles, psychological acupressure, tearless trauma or meridian tapping, it is a mind / body tool that clears physical and emotional blocks from your energy system. It is one of the simplest and fastest ways to heal from almost any kind of trauma, whether it happened yesterday or 50 years ago. EFT is gentle, forgiving, non-judgmental and can safely be used with children and adults alike. There are no invasive procedures, manipulation or medication involved and it can be adapted to any situation.
EFT is founded on the belief that there are channels of energy within the body commonly known as meridians. It is thought that when these channels become blocked, through the stresses, strains and traumatic events experienced in everyday life, the energy flow around the body becomes unbalanced. When this happens, it is thought to lead to physical and emotional symptoms, which over time can manifest as a disease of one kind or another. As well as affecting our health, emotional blocks can lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours; this may result in phobias, anxiety, depression or even addictions.
How can EFT help you?
As EFT is non-invasive and entirely natural, it is safe to use for any issue. It is painless with no side effects and advocates of the therapy say it can offer long-lasting relief and often works where other approaches fail. EFT works well for recurring problems as it tackles the root cause, rather than simply treating symptoms.
People commonly turn to EFT for help with addictions, PTSD, fears and phobias, pain management, the effects of trauma and abuse, stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, lack of confidence and self-esteem, insomnia, bereavement and anger management, as well as physical problems such as asthma, fibromyalgia and IBS.
The Treatment
In a similar way to acupuncture, EFT aims to release both the negative emotions and unbalanced or blocked energy, by stimulating the meridian points. Rather than using needles however, this gentle therapy uses tapping techniques. Tapping on the meridian points using the fingertips, whilst focusing on the issue, is thought to neutralise the emotional block in the energy system.
The first session begins with a short consultation about your health and lifestyle and the practitioner will also discuss what you wish to accomplish.
Your first session will last about 90 minutes allowing time for the consultation, with subsequent sessions lasting about an hour.
