Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)
Picture
Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD) is an award winning advanced reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body.

RLD is a unique system of reflexology that has been researched and developed through extensive clinical practice by Sally Kay BSc (Hons), whilst she was working in Cancer Care.

Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes swelling in the body's tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs.

It develops when the lymphatic system doesn't work properly. The lymphatic system is a network of channels and glands throughout the body that helps fight infection and remove excess fluid.

There are two main types of lymphoedema, Primary lymphoedema, where the development of the lymphatic system is compromised from birth and the much more common type, Secondary lymphoedema, which most often develops after treatment for cancer.

Research suggests that cancer survivors with lymphoedema are more likely to suffer psychological and emotional difficulties, be more disabled, and experience a poorer quality of life than survivors without the condition. With improved cancer survival rates, this means that more people are living longer with this debilitating side effect for which there is no cure.

In 2016 Sally Kay conducted a trial with 26 women who had developed lymphoedema in one arm following treatment for breast cancer.  The results showed a significant reduction in the volume of the affected arm and this reduction in volume appeared to be maintained for more than six months. Participant concerns were significantly reduced and their wellbeing significantly increased. No serious adverse effects were reported.

RLD is not only excellent for lymphoedema, but also many other auto-immune and inflammatory conditions including arthritis, asthma, eczema, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, ME, sinus problems, migraines, headaches, muscular tension, aches, pains and Premenstrual Syndrome.

Julia has trained with Sally Kay and is an approved RLD Practitioner.
