About Indian Head Massage
What is Indian Head Massage?
It is an extremely effective therapy that has evolved from traditional techniques practised in India as part of family rituals for over a thousand years. It has its origins in the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which was developed in the Himalayan region of India in circa 1800BC. The treatment involves massage to the shoulders, neck, scalp and face, which are important energy centres within the body.
How can Indian Head Massage help you?
The massage works the major muscle groups of the shoulders and neck which is where most stress accumulates. There are both physical and emotional benefits to this treatment. It helps to release stress, tension, worry, depression and despondency, leaving you feeling happier and relaxed in mind and body. Headaches, migraines and eye strain are stress related conditions that can improve with Indian Head Massage because tension is released during treatment. Indian Head Massage stimulates blood flow which in turn helps with healthy hair growth. Also, as the scalp is stimulated, the head gradually relaxes helping to clear a busy mind, which can improve clarity, concentration and memory along with aiding a better quality sleep. Indian Head Massage is a healthy, natural and non-invasive way to remove waste products from the body. It works by improving lymphatic drainage and blood flow to the neck, removing unhealthy toxins.
The Treatment
The first treatment begins with a consultation about your health and lifestyle. Whilst Indian Head Massage is often given in a seated position, our treatment is carried out with you lying on the massage couch, as we feel this is more relaxing. You will remain clothed, although it is preferable to uncover the shoulders. This can be achieved by wearing a strappy vest top or by removing your top and wearing a sarong which is provided. You can choose to have oils in your hair or not. The treatment begins with you lying face down for the massage to the shoulders, neck and head, finishing with you turning over to receive the facial massage. If you prefer to receive the treatment seated, then it can be adapted accordingly.
Your first session will last about an hour, allowing time for the consultation and for you to enjoy the treatment without feeling rushed; subsequent treatments will last about 45 minutes.
